PANews reported on April 9 that according to The Block, with the new White House administration taking office, US state legislators are considering adopting blockchain technology in many ways. New York State Assemblyman Clyde Vanel has submitted a bill to explore the use of blockchain technology to ensure election fairness and combat voter fraud. Vanel's proposal to the State Assembly Election Law Committee will instruct the New York State Election Commission to evaluate the use of on-chain systems to present "uncensored truth" in the democratic decision-making process. If the proposal is approved, the election commission will need to study related activities in other states and submit research results within 12 months.
The draft bill filed Tuesday is being considered by committee. If it receives support after revisions and debate, it will go to the state assembly for further discussion, then to the New York State Senate and finally to the governor's office. The governor's signature is the final step before any potential legislation becomes law. Four versions of Vanel's election bill have been introduced in the New York State Assembly since 2017, but none of them have been approved by the governor.
