PANews reported on February 26 that according to The Information: Meta Platforms (META.O) discussed a $200 billion artificial intelligence data center project.
Meta Platforms (META.O) is in talks to build a new data center campus for its artificial intelligence business that would dwarf anything the company has done so far and would be the largest project of its kind, according to two people familiar with the matter. The cost could exceed $200 billion, depending on the number of chips and the amount of electricity the campus the company is discussing, one of the people said. Meta's proposed new data center campus, which has not been previously reported, would be several times larger than a new AI data center that Zuckerberg discussed in Louisiana last month. The discussions suggest Meta is preparing to respond to a surge in demand for generative AI from billions of users by offering AI chatbots across all its apps. It also suggests Zuckerberg may go to great lengths to catch up to rival OpenAI.
