ENS COO: V2 will only be deployed on Ethereum L1, Namechain development has stopped.

PANews reported on February 7th that Katherine Wu, COO of Ethereum domain name service provider ENS, announced on the X platform that ENS v2 will only be deployed on the Ethereum L1 network, and the planned Namechain L2 development will be discontinued. This adjustment only involves the deployment layer selection and does not affect the functionality, mission, or product roadmap of ENS v2. As an upgrade to the existing ENS, ENS v2 will provide an independent registry for each .eth domain name, enabling stronger customization capabilities. Simultaneously, the team is building two new applications, which went live on the testnet this week. ENS emphasized that even when deployed on L1, ENSv2 will operate exactly as originally designed, ensuring that the user experience and core protocol goals remain unchanged. It is understood that this decision is related to broader discussions about the role of L2 in the Ethereum ecosystem. ENS will continue to support as many chains as possible, including allowing users to register .eth domain names on any EVM chain in the future, and will maintain address support for major chains such as Solana and Bitcoin. Detailed rationale for the decision has been published on the official blog.
