The U.S. OCC is seeking public comment on the regulatory framework for payment-based stablecoins under the GENIUS Act.

PANews reported on February 26 that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has released proposed rules to establish regulatory requirements for "permitted payment stablecoin issuers" and foreign issuers, as well as certain custody businesses within its jurisdiction. Provisions related to BSA/AML and OFAC sanctions will be developed in separate rules with the Treasury Department. Public comments will be accepted for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.
