In a recent interview, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that entry-level white-collar jobs in industries such as finance, consulting, and technology will first be filled through supplementary roles and then replaced, potentially causing the unemployment rate to soar to 10% to 20%. He predicts this impact could become apparent within one to five years.
Two years ago, AI was at the level of a bright high school student; now it's at the level of a bright college student, and it continues to break through. Organizing documents, brainstorming, and writing financial reports—these are the daily tasks of these basic jobs. Unlike previous technological revolutions, AI has a wider reach, deeper penetration, and faster pace of development.
Amodei stated that AI company CEOs were discussing this privately, without communicating it to the general public and legislators, so he chose to speak out publicly. We cannot stop the AI train, but we have the opportunity to guide its direction. Countermeasures include: educating the public on how to use AI, helping workers adapt, and government intervention to balance economic competition—including taxing AI companies.
