PANews reported on April 6 that US President Trump threatened to strike Iranian energy facilities if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened. As a result, oil prices opened higher, with US crude rising 1.3% to $113 per barrel. Trump tweeted Sunday morning, “Tuesday will be Iran’s Power Plant Day and Bridge Day, all at once. Absolutely unprecedented!!! Open the Strait now.” He then set a new deadline of 8:00 AM Beijing time on April 8. Previously, Trump had issued a similar two-day ultimatum to Iran on March 21, but later extended the deadline to April 6. Furthermore, in an interview with Israel’s Channel 12 television on April 5, Trump stated that the US was engaged in “deep negotiations” with Iran and that an agreement was “very likely” to be reached before the April 8 deadline, while threatening, “If we don’t reach an agreement, I’m going to blow everything over there.”
Trump stated that the deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz is 8:00 AM on April 8th.
