Bessant: Tariff levels may be restored by early July

PANews reported on April 15th that, according to Jinshi, US Treasury Secretary Bessant stated that Trump's tariff levels could return to pre-Supreme Court levels before several tariff orders were overturned by early July. After the Supreme Court ruled that Trump's use of emergency powers to impose early tariffs was unconstitutional, Bessant is seeking to rebuild his "tariff wall" using different authorizations (such as the Section 301 investigation). Bessant noted that while it's difficult to say when the consequences of the Iraq War will "impact" the US economy, the current economic situation remains strong. He believes that the US growth rate this year can easily exceed 3% or even 3.5%. He added that the continued decline in core inflation, excluding volatile energy and food prices, is a good sign. Bessant stated, "I think the Fed has consistently misjudged inflation; core inflation is declining. If they want to wait for clearer data before taking action, I understand, but that would mean interest rates should be lowered further."
