France has charged 88 suspects with wrench attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders.

PANews reported on April 27th, citing Cointelegraph, that French National Prosecutor for Organized Crime Vanessa Perrée stated that 88 people have been charged with "wrench attacks" targeting cryptocurrency holders, including 10 minors. 75 of them have been detained pre-trial, and the cases involve 12 cases being investigated by a pre-trial judge in Paris. A "wrench attack" refers to using violence, such as burglary or kidnapping, to gain access to a victim's cryptocurrency wallet. Perrée stated that some suspects are involved in multiple cases, revealing the existence of structured networks. The investigation is ongoing to identify all perpetrators and planners. Records from the French National Office for Organized Crime show 18 such incidents in 2024, 67 in 2025, and 47 so far in 2026.
