BitoPro released an update on the May 9 security incident, confirming that the attacker was the North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group

PANews reported on June 19 that Taiwan's cryptocurrency exchange BitoPro released the latest statement and progress update on the security incident on May 9. According to the investigation report issued on June 11, no insider involvement was found in the incident, and the attack method was similar to the previous international attack mode of the North Korean hacker organization "Lazarus Group", including asset theft incidents imitating the global bank SWIFT system and cryptocurrency exchanges.

Bypass multiple security protections through social engineering and malware, and steal hot wallet assets by disguising normal operations during platform wallet system upgrades and asset transfers.

After the incident, BitoPro initiated emergency response measures, including shutting down the hot wallet system, replacing encryption keys, isolating and rebuilding the affected system, etc. On May 19, BitoPro proactively provided the hot wallet address to the on-chain data tracking platform Arkham for updating the platform liquidity data. As of June 19, some wallet addresses have been updated and users can query them through the Arkham platform.
