Australian police seized AU$5.7 million worth of Bitcoin in connection with illegal dark web transactions.

PANews reported on May 8th that, according to a statement from the New South Wales Police in Australia, their cybercrime investigation unit seized 52.3 Bitcoins, worth approximately AU$5.7 million (approximately US$4.13 million), during a 15-month investigation into dark web markets. Police stated that these assets are suspected of originating from illegal dark web transactions and money laundering activities. During the investigation, police also seized electronic devices, cocaine, and approximately AU$47,000 in cryptocurrency at the suspects' residences. Two men involved have been charged. Police stated that this operation is one of the largest cryptocurrency seizures in Australian history.
