British sprinter Chijindu Ujah arrested on suspicion of cryptocurrency fraud.

PANews reported on May 9th that, according to Reuters, British sprinter and former world champion Chijindu Ujah, arrested on suspicion of cryptocurrency fraud, has been released on bail. The UK's Organized Crime Unit stated that Ujah was one of 10 people arrested, seven of whom were granted bail by a magistrate and will appear in court on May 28th. All are charged with conspiracy to commit fraud.

Police say the suspects belong to an organized crime syndicate that allegedly used phone scams, impersonating police officers and cryptocurrency company personnel, to trick victims into revealing security information, including mnemonic phrases, in order to steal funds from their cryptocurrency wallets. One victim reportedly lost over £300,000 (approximately $410,000). Ujah had previously been banned for 22 months for doping violations, which led to the cancellation of Great Britain's silver medal in the 4x100m relay at the Tokyo Olympics.
