Barclays: Generation Z's enthusiasm for speculative investing is a growing concern, and they predict the market is threatening other speculative investment instruments.

PANews reported on May 16 that, according to CNBC, Barclays analysts pointed out that prediction markets are threatening other speculative investment instruments and are already a strong competitor to leveraged ETPs. Nearly one-third of Generation Z and the next generation of Millennials are involved in or considering participating in prediction markets.

Barclays data shows that since the 2024 US presidential election, the monthly nominal trading volume of prediction platforms has been steadily increasing. Kalshi and Polymarket's nominal trading volume exceeded $24 billion in April, almost equivalent to the size of "oversubscription strategies" for indices and individual stocks, compared to only $5 billion a year ago. However, the prediction market still struggles to compete with the flagship retail product, ODTE, whose total trading volume in March reached a staggering $57 trillion.
