PANews reported on May 18th, citing Bloomberg, that Apple plans to launch a new standalone Siri chat app in iOS 27, introducing privacy features such as automatic chat history deletion. Users can choose in settings to save Siri conversations for 30 days, 1 year, or permanently, similar to iMessage's retention options. The new Siri will adopt "Apple Foundation Models" and extensively integrate with Google Gemini and parts of Google Cloud infrastructure to enhance generative AI capabilities. Apple still claims to maintain its privacy advantage through Private Cloud Compute and limits the persistent data types and duration of Siri's memory system. The report states that the new Siri is still labeled "Beta" in internal testing, even though its release has been delayed by two years.
