The Korea Communications Standards Commission is reviewing Polymarket to determine whether it constitutes illegal gambling.

PANews reported on May 22 that, according to Bloomingbit, the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) has launched an investigation into the global prediction market platform Polymarket to determine whether it constitutes an illegal gambling website under Korean law. Officials from the KCSC stated that they recently received related complaints, initiated the investigation, and are also referencing overseas regulatory cases. Polymarket offers services in Korean and is easily accessible in South Korea. Users can place real-time bets using stablecoins on events such as presidential elections and sporting events. Unlike traditional gambling websites, Polymarket represents a new form of prediction market and requires detailed review, but it may still be considered a new type of gambling-related website.
