Hong Kong plans to establish an international commercial court, and its judgments could be enforced in mainland China.

PANews reported on May 28 that, according to Caixin, the Hong Kong judiciary announced plans to establish the Hong Kong International Commercial Court under the High Court. This court will specifically adjudicate international and cross-border commercial disputes involving large sums of money and complex legal relationships, with judgments enforceable in mainland China. The judiciary has begun preparatory work and, after consulting with the legal profession and other relevant parties, aims to formally establish the court within one year, allocating a dedicated floor in the High Court building in Admiralty. As a component of the High Court, the new court will operate under the existing High Court Ordinance and High Court Rules. It will clarify the scope of cases, simplify litigation procedures, and provide a more flexible appeals mechanism through specialized practical instructions to improve dispute resolution efficiency and strengthen Hong Kong's international legal and dispute resolution services.
