Analysis: Mark Carney's election as Canadian Prime Minister may strengthen cryptocurrency regulation

PANews reported on May 2 that according to CoinDesk, Canada's Mark Carney defeated the Bitcoin-supporting candidate Pierre Poilievre and was successfully re-elected as Prime Minister. He has long been critical of Bitcoin, believing that it is not a means of storing value and has limited function as a currency. He also supports the issuance of central bank digital currency (CBDC) to enhance the stability of the financial system, which may indicate that Canada will adopt a more prudent cryptocurrency policy, give priority to the development of CBDC, and implement stricter supervision of decentralized finance and crypto assets.

Earlier news , Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney led the Liberal Party to win the 2025 Canadian general election. The former Governor of the Bank of England is known for his cautious and critical stance on Bitcoin and promised to make Canada a leader in emerging technology.
