PANews reported on May 1 that according to CoinDesk, Kuwaiti authorities are cracking down on illegal cryptocurrency mining activities, and more than 60 people are currently under investigation. This is a large-scale operation launched by the country to eradicate unlicensed mining. The security operation led by the Public Prosecution Department was launched nationwide last Friday, focusing on residential houses suspected of installing mining machines. Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef and Minister of Electricity Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem personally coordinated the operation to curb illegal electricity use that caused overloads in the power grid and power outages in some areas.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity has begun to cut off power supply to mining-related properties, and re-powering requires approval from the Ministry of the Interior. The country's Anti-Money Laundering Committee, supported by regulators such as the National Bank of Kuwait, has completely banned all crypto mining activities. Authorities warned that more suspects involved in the case may be found in the coming weeks, and follow-up investigations are being carried out in multiple communities.
