Binance responds to "hackers stealing coins by sending red envelopes": user devices may have installed malicious plug-ins/software, it is recommended to call the police

PANews reported on February 25 that in response to the "hackers stole coins by sending red envelopes", Binance responded that based on the existing investigation results and the information available, it was initially suspected that the user's device may have installed malicious plug-ins/software, resulting in the hacker stealing the user's email, Google Authenticator, Binance account and other account information. Based on this, the hacker simulated the user's commonly used devices and IP environment, so the hacker successfully passed the verification process of the red envelope, which ultimately led to the theft of funds.

It should be noted that when users send red envelopes for payment on the Binance platform, they need to verify the user's payment PIN code/fingerprint or face ID/authenticator App/email. Therefore, the reason why the user's account assets were stolen through the red envelope function was due to the theft of the above-mentioned relevant personal information.

Binance said: "We strongly recommend that the user choose to call the police to handle this incident. Our security risk control team will assist in providing all the information we have, and with the cooperation of the user, further investigate the device to find out the final cause. We also remind all users to always be vigilant, improve safety awareness, and be sure to use safe and clean equipment. Pay attention to prevent security risks of accounts and devices to protect personal assets."
