PANews reported on November 14 that according to Cointelegraph, StarkWare CEO Eli Ben Sasson said he expects OP_CAT, a major upgrade of the Bitcoin network, to go live within the next 12 months. In an interview at Devcon 2024 in Thailand, Ben-Sasson said that the launch of OP_CAT will bring a series of new features to Bitcoin, including "covenants, ZK-rollup and L2 networks."

Notably, the launch of OP_CAT will make Starknet the first L2 network to perform native settlement on Bitcoin and Ethereum.
