PANews reported on October 14th that the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York and the National Security Division jointly announced that the U.S. government has filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit for approximately 127,271 bitcoins (currently valued at approximately $15 billion) and confirmed that these funds are currently in U.S. custody. The announcement stated that these crypto assets were obtained through fraud and money laundering by the defendants and were originally held in non-custodial wallets controlled by them. The U.S. has now obtained the private keys and seized control of the funds. The Department of Justice stated that this is the largest crypto asset forfeiture action in U.S. history.
According to previous disclosures by the on-chain analysis agency Arkham, this batch of Bitcoin is highly correlated with the LuBian mining pool assets that were suspected of being stolen in 2020 .
