Mastercard selects Polygon to introduce verified username functionality for its self-custodied wallets.

PANews reported on November 18th that, according to CoinDesk, Mastercard has selected Polygon to power its new system, which allows users to send cryptocurrency to verified usernames without using lengthy wallet addresses. Mastercard's crypto credentials standardize blockchain address verification by enabling readable aliases. Cryptocurrency payment API company Mercuryo handles identity verification and issues these aliases, which users can associate with their self-custodied wallets. This transfer method is similar to transferring money via username rather than bank details. Users can also claim tokens on Polygon to prove their wallets support verified transfers and help the application process credential-based transactions.
