로이터에 따르면, 미국 법원이 코인베이스가 브로커-딜러로 등록하지 않고 79개 암호화폐를 증권으로 판매했다는 원고들의 주장을 받아들였다. 코인베이스 사용자들이 거래한 토큰과 관련 연방 증권법에 따른 '법적 판매자'가 아니라고 명시한 코인베이스의 주장을 기각한 것이다. 앞서 코인베이스 고객들은 '코인베이스가 미등록 증권을 판매했고, 규제 당국에 브로커·딜러로 등록하지 못해 고객에게 피해를 끼쳤다'며 집단 소송을 제기한 바 있다.
