PANews reported on October 29th that the New York Post reported that Zhao Changpeng is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren. Warren's social media posts are alleged to have defamed her regarding Zhao's 2023 plea agreement and subsequent imprisonment. Following Trump's pardon of Zhao Changpeng last Thursday, Warren immediately posted on the X platform, stating: "Zhao Changpeng pleaded guilty to criminal money laundering and was sentenced to prison. But then he funded Trump's stablecoin and lobbied for a pardon. Now he has gotten what he wanted. If Congress doesn't stop this kind of corruption, it will be tantamount to letting it go unchecked." However, Zhao Changpeng was never convicted of money laundering. He was only convicted of violating the Bank Secrecy Act by failing to establish adequate controls for potential malicious activity while running Binance, which was one of the reasons he was forced to resign after reaching a plea agreement with the Department of Justice. Zhao Changpeng sent a letter to Warren through his lawyer Teresa Goody Guillen, asking him to retract the relevant remarks. If Warren does not formally retract them, Zhao Changpeng will immediately file a defamation lawsuit against her.
