Brazilian Congressman Warns of Drex CBDC Risks, Rejects Cash Abolition Bill

PANews reported on December 29 that according to News.bitcoin, Brazilian Congressman Julia Zanatta expressed concern about the impact of the implementation of digital currency (drex) on citizens' lives. Julia Zanatta emphasized that physical currency may end when the country promotes the implementation of drex (national central bank digital currency). In a recent interview, Julia Zanatta explained that the use of drex should be voluntary rather than mandatory because it could become a tool to exert control over Brazilians, and she has planned to establish multiple backup measures to prevent this from happening and help Brazilians maintain their current economic freedom.

Julia Zanatta recently proposed a bill to counter the already introduced bill that would ban the use of cash in Brazil, proposing to rely only on electronic transactions and drex. The bill, proposed in 2020, would gradually stop printing money starting in 2025.
