Cannes Mayor Eyes 2027 French Presidential Election, Pushes for Crypto Payments in City

PANews reported on January 15 that according to Leviathan News, Cannes Mayor David Lisnard is targeting the 2027 French presidential election and pushing the city to adopt cryptocurrency payments. He also plans to make EthCC (Ethereum Community Conference) a central topic next summer.

According to Lisnard's LinkedIn post, which he shared, Lisnard said: "As part of our Web3 strategy, we will encourage and specifically train Cannes merchants to integrate cryptocurrencies for payments. Cannes will host the 8th Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) from June 30 to July 3, 2025, which is the largest annual Ethereum blockchain event in Europe. This means that a large number of potential customers who are accustomed to using cryptocurrency payments will come to our city. We will provide EthCC attendees with a 'crypto-friendly' merchant map, which will be updated and published publicly on a regular basis."
