The average Bitcoin transaction fee has dropped to the lowest level in recent years, possibly due to the decline in the popularity of inscriptions.

PANews reported on February 15 that CryptoQuant analyst Maartunn wrote that the average transaction fee for Bitcoin is currently 0.000013 BTC (about $1.27), hitting a low point in recent years. In May 2023, December 2023, and April 2024, Bitcoin's transaction fees soared several times, mainly driven by the launch of the Runes protocol and a sharp rise in Bitcoin prices. At that time, the number of unconfirmed transactions in the mempool (transaction memory pool) increased significantly, causing users to pay higher fees for faster confirmation. Currently, the mempool is idle and the popularity of Bitcoin Inscriptions has declined. However, if Bitcoin is stored in multiple addresses, it is now a low-cost opportunity to merge funds.
