PANews reported on January 22 that according to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges Upbit and Bithumb have decided to compensate investors with a total amount of approximately 3.5 billion won (US$2.4 million) to compensate for the losses caused by the network outage on December 3 last year (the day South Korea declared martial law).
Upbit will pay 3.1 billion won (about 2.2 million U.S. dollars) for 596 system failures, while Bithumb will pay 377.5 million won (about 264,000 U.S. dollars) for 124 incidents. There are no related cases for other exchanges. This incident is the largest number of users affected and the largest amount of compensation in the history of system failures of Korean cryptocurrency exchanges.
