Beijing procuratorate conducts penetrating investigation and recovers 89 million yuan in stolen money, involving virtual currency

PANews reported on December 20 that according to Guangming.com, the Beijing Procuratorate recently announced the details of the successful recovery of a case of embezzlement in the "Procuratorate Protecting Enterprises" special operation. In the case, the defendant Feng and others took advantage of their positions to illegally transfer and conceal more than 140 million yuan in bonuses paid by the company through shell companies and overseas virtual currency trading platforms. Part of the funds were obfuscated through the "mixing currency" platform, and part of the funds were transferred to accounts controlled by criminal gangs in the form of virtual currency or RMB.

Through blockchain big data analysis and two-way review technology, the procuratorate compared the flow of virtual currency and legal currency one by one, locked the capital path, and finally recovered 92 bitcoins and other stolen money, totaling more than 89 million yuan. In September 2024, the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court found Feng and seven others guilty of embezzlement and sentenced them to fixed-term imprisonment of 3 to 14 years and 6 months and fines. The judgment has come into effect.
