FBI's crypto fraud operation saves thousands of victims, $285 million in losses

PANews reported on February 14 that Cryptoslate reported that according to a press release on February 13, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has helped thousands of victims avoid hundreds of millions of dollars in losses through Operation Level Up to combat crypto investment fraud. The program aims to proactively identify and intervene in fraud traps, and has saved more than 4,300 potential victims and avoided losses of approximately $285 million. The FBI tracks fraud in real time, directly contacts victims to prevent capital investment, and pays attention to victims' emotional trauma and provides necessary psychological support. The FBI calls on the public to be vigilant against unsolicited investment opportunities, especially cryptocurrency investments, and is committed to collecting intelligence to destroy fraud criminal networks. According to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), cryptocurrency investment fraud losses in 2023 reached $3.9 billion, and "pig killing" frauds in 2024 lost $3.6 billion worldwide, and actual losses may be higher. An average of 3,200 cryptocurrency fraud complaints are submitted to IC3 each month.
