Trump administration considers merging FDIC and OCC, plans to reduce bank regulator power

PANews reported on February 12 that according to the Wall Street Journal, Trump administration officials are discussing plans to integrate bank regulatory agencies and may try to merge the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) into the Treasury Department without congressional approval and merge its regulatory functions with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

The plan aims to reduce the power of bank regulators and increase direct government control over the financial industry, following moves by the Trump administration to limit the influence of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
