PANews reported on January 19 that according to Ledgerinsights, the Eurogroup meeting next Monday will discuss tokenization, distributed ledger technology and central bank funds for wholesale settlement, as well as the status of the retail digital euro. The Eurogroup is an informal organization of economic and finance ministers that meets to discuss issues related to the euro.
Hyun Song Shin, economic adviser and head of the monetary and economic department at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), will participate in the discussion. He is involved in the Agorá project, a BIS project that aims to combine tokenization and wholesale CBDC to speed up cross-border payments using correspondent banks. The project involves 41 institutions and 7 central banks, including the Bank of France as a representative of the European Union.
