PANews reported on March 12 that White House trade adviser Navarro said on Tuesday afternoon local time that President Trump will not raise the import tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50% on Wednesday. Six hours ago, Trump announced plans to double the 25% import tariff on Canadian metals in response to Ontario, Canada's decision to impose a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to the United States (which was canceled after Trump's threat), and Ontario's move itself was a retaliation against Trump's 25% tariff on Canadian imports. Navarro also said that the 25% tariff on all imported steel and aluminum will take effect at midnight on the 12th, and there will be no exemptions.
