Celsius Network appeals dismissal of $2 billion defamation claim against FTX

PANews reported on January 2 that according to CryptoSlate, Celsius Network has filed an appeal with the District Court on December 31, 2024, challenging Judge John Dorsey's ruling to dismiss its $2 billion defamation claim against FTX. Celsius claimed that the false statements made by FTX executives and affiliates damaged its reputation and accelerated its bankruptcy in July 2022.

Initially, Celsius filed a $2 billion claim for "unfounded and defamatory statements", but FTX opposed it due to insufficient evidence and failure to meet the bankruptcy claim scope. In December 2024, Celsius revised its claim to $444 million, focusing on recovering part of the money paid to FTX before bankruptcy. However, Judge Dorsey dismissed the original and revised claims due to procedural defects, stating that Celsius did not obtain the court's approval to modify the claims.
