PANews reported on June 20 that according to CoinDesk, the Norwegian government plans to temporarily ban the construction of new cryptocurrency mining data centers using the Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism from the fall of 2025 to ensure that electricity supply is used first in high-value-added areas such as manufacturing, heating and AI. Although Norway is rich in hydropower resources, the government believes that crypto mining is energy-intensive and has limited contribution to the local economy, and needs to be "restricted as much as possible." The ban is still awaiting approval.
