PANews reported on March 11th that, according to The Block , Ethereum researchers have demonstrated a proof-of-concept for "native Rollups " using the execution client Ethrex . By adding an EXECUTE pre-compilation to implement EIP-8079 , they directly replay and verify Layer 2 block state changes at the Ethereum base layer. This solution does not rely on zero-knowledge proofs or fraud proofs; instead, Ethereum itself executes and confirms the validity of Rollup transactions. Related contracts are used to track Rollup state, bridge cross-layer messages, and verify withdrawals based on Merkle-Patricia proofs. Developers claim that native Rollups simplify long-term Layer 2 maintenance, allowing them to directly inherit Ethereum's security and upgrade properties. Currently, it is still in the exploratory and proof-of-concept stage.
Ethereum researchers have proposed a "native Rollups" Proof-of-Concept (PoC) that will directly verify Layer 2 states at the base layer.
