Tether shareholder Christopher Harborne once donated £5 million to British politician Farage for his security expenses.

PANews reported on April 29th that, according to The Block, Christopher Harborne, a billionaire and 12% shareholder of USDT issuer Tether, made a personal donation of approximately £5 million to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in 2024 for his security expenses. This donation was not disclosed in accordance with UK campaign finance regulations. Public documents show that Harborne had previously donated approximately £12 million to Reform UK. Reform UK advocates for making the UK a global crypto hub and supports lower capital gains tax on crypto assets; it is the first political party in the UK to accept a crypto donation. This disclosure comes weeks after the UK announced a ban on political donations in crypto form, arguing that crypto could obscure the source of funds and could be used for foreign influence.
