PANews reported on April 30th that, according to SBS Biz, the Korea Personal Data Protection Commission has launched an investigation into Upbit and Bithumb's sharing of order books with overseas exchanges, focusing on whether personal information was transferred across borders. The commission has completed written investigations and on-site inspections and is currently in the stage of determining illegality, with results expected in the second half of the year. Order books are lists of buy and sell orders on exchanges; sharing them overseas can increase liquidity, but if user identification information is transferred along with them, it may violate the Personal Data Protection Act (cross-border transfers require user consent). It is understood that Upbit shares its order book with Upbit APAC in Southeast Asia and the Tether market, while Bithumb previously shared its order book with Stellar in Australia.
The Korea Personal Data Protection Commission is investigating Upbit and Bithumb for order book sharing.
