PANews reported on May 1st that, according to The Block, U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden sent a letter to stablecoin issuer Tether and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, questioning whether Tether had previously provided a loan to a family trust of Lutnick's children. This loan occurred during the period when Lutnick transferred his shares in Cantor Fitzgerald to his children's trust. The senators stated that the document raises questions about whether Tether helped Lutnick's children obtain funds to purchase their father's shares in exchange for control of his children's assets. If true, this would be a "shocking revelation." The senators also pointed out that Lutnick's relationship with Tether was very close before his nomination, and that Tether received favorable treatment under the GENIUS Act. Neither Tether nor the Commerce Department has responded to requests for comment.
