In April, venture capital funding for the crypto industry plummeted 74% month-over-month to $659 million, the lowest level in nearly two years.

PANews reported on May 1 that, according to Cointelegraph, the cryptocurrency venture capital market cooled significantly in April, with total cryptocurrency VC funding falling to $659 million that month. A total of 63 funding rounds were completed, a sharp 74% decrease compared to $2.6 billion (84 rounds) in March, marking the lowest monthly funding level since July 2024.

So far in 2026, the total funding raised in the crypto industry has reached $5.64 billion. Since reaching a high of $3.84 billion in October 2025, crypto VC funding has been declining, during which time the total market capitalization of the global crypto market has fallen by approximately 37%. In terms of sectors, DeFi protocols lead with 12 funding rounds, while blockchain services and AI-related crypto projects each completed 8 rounds. Market maker GSR's venture capital arm was the most active investor in April, participating in 4 funding rounds; Tether, Animoca Brands, and Coinbase Ventures also participated in 3 transactions each.
