PANews reported on May 4th that, according to Jinshi, US Treasury Secretary Bessenter stated, "What we want to make clear is that the Iranians do not control the Strait of Hormuz. We absolutely control the Strait of Hormuz." Bessenter indicated that the current global oil deficit caused by the conflict is approximately 8 to 10 million barrels per day. He also said that each oil tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz carries about 2 million barrels of crude oil. If four or five ships sail out each day, the oil deficit can be made up. He added that 150 to 200 such ships "can sail out." "So I think the market supply will be very ample," Bessenter said. At the same time, Bessenter claimed that the Iranian economy is "in freefall." "Everyone says they can endure hardship. But their soldiers cannot endure not receiving their paychecks."
