PANews reported on May 6th, citing CoinDesk, that Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko stated at Consensus Miami 2026 that the major Solana network upgrade, "Alpenglow," is expected to launch this year, possibly as early as the next quarter. Yakovenko stated that the Alpenglow upgrade aims to bring transaction confirmation speeds close to the physical limit of "light speed," improving the network's speed, reliability, and transaction determinism, shifting Solana from its early innovation focus to a more mature phase emphasizing performance guarantees and reliability. This is crucial for time-sensitive applications such as financial applications.
