PANews reported on May 7th, citing Bloomberg, that translation tool company DeepL plans to lay off approximately 25% of its workforce, or about 250 people. CEO Jarek Kutylowski stated that this move is in response to a "major structural shift" brought about by artificial intelligence. He said on LinkedIn that the company will adapt to the AI era by reducing management layers and accelerating decision-making. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Cologne, DeepL is considered a competitor to Google Translate . In 2024 , it raised $ 300 million at a valuation of approximately $ 2 billion and had previously considered an IPO in the US. The report points out that large tech companies such as Meta and Microsoft have also recently shifted more resources to their own AI products through layoffs and buyouts, indicating an accelerated adjustment in the industry's overall human resources and cost structure.
Google Translate competitor DeepL announced it will lay off a quarter of its workforce to restructure its AI business.
