PANews reported on May 15th that, according to Protos, Myanmar has proposed the death penalty for criminals who use violence to coerce victims into participating in cryptocurrency scam rings. According to the country's draft Anti-Cyber Scam Bill, criminals who use violence, torture, illegal arrest and detention, or cruel treatment to force others to commit online scams will be sentenced to death. The bill will be submitted to parliament for review in June. Furthermore, operators of scam rings or perpetrators of crypto scams will face life imprisonment. Last month, the Myanmar president commuted all death sentences to life imprisonment.
