PANews reported on June 2nd that, according to the Financial Times, Tencent is about to launch an embedded AI agent for WeChat. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Tencent is testing a prototype of this agent, which can help users complete various operations within WeChat. The company plans to initiate the necessary compliance approval process as early as this month. After the compliance review is completed, Tencent will first conduct a limited-scale test with a small number of external users, and then gradually roll it out to all users in stages. The official launch date has not yet been determined.
An individual who saw an early demo of the product stated that users can access the AI assistant's chat window simply by swiping right on the WeChat homepage. Sources familiar with the matter said that Tencent has prioritized this project as a top strategic priority, with management striving to refine the details. However, a large-scale, full-scale rollout still faces the challenge of insufficient computing power. Tencent's initial internal estimates indicate extremely high costs, and it remains unclear whether sufficient revenue can be generated in the short term to cover those costs.
