Polymarket has been exposed for allegedly paying influencers through personal accounts to subtly "promote" products and predict market trends.

PANews reported on June 5th that, according to POLITICO, Matthew Modabber, Chief Marketing Officer of the prediction market platform Polymarket, transferred approximately $2.5 million to over 800 people through his personal PayPal account between January 2025 and February 2026. At least $350,000 of this went to content creators such as Nick Shirley, Alex LoRusso, Brian Krassenstein, and Riley Gaines. At least 20 influencers who received payment posted approximately 490 pieces of content related to Polymarket on X, without explicitly indicating that they were paid promotions. Some of the copy was provided by the platform and emphasized the supposed "accuracy" of the predictions, driving traffic around topics such as Trump's re-election, the DOGE government efficiency project, and xAI collaborations. The FTC requires influencers to disclose a "substantial connection" with advertisers, but has not yet given a clear response regarding the prediction market situation.
