PANews reported on January 22 that Coinbase announced the formation of an "Independent Advisory Committee on Quantum Computing and Blockchain" to address the potential threats that future quantum computers may pose to existing blockchain encryption systems. The committee comprises leading experts in the field, including Scott Aaronson, director of the Center for Quantum Information at the University of Texas at Austin; Dan Boneh, head of cryptography at Stanford University; Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation; and Sreeram Kannan, founder of EigenLayer. Its main responsibilities include: publishing position papers assessing progress in quantum computing and its impact on blockchain; providing advice to individuals, developers, and organizations on addressing long-term quantum risks; and providing independent analysis and real-time guidance on major breakthroughs in quantum computing.
