Thailand Investigates Unauthorized Worldcoin Trading Locations

PANews reported on October 24th that, according to Cointelegraph, According to an announcement by Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a joint inspection operation with the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) targeted iris scanning locations associated with Worldcoin, alleging unauthorized operations of WLD token trading services. Worldcoin, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, distributes its native token WLD to eligible World ID users after iris scan verification.

The SEC stated that the service provider may have violated Thailand's digital asset laws, and legal actions have been taken against the suspects involved. Worldcoin clarified that its token distribution is restricted to jurisdictions where it is legally permitted and emphasized that it is not responsible for the availability of WLD on third-party platforms.

Since its launch in July 2023, Worldcoin has faced regulatory scrutiny in multiple countries, including Indonesia, Germany, Kenya, and Brazil, where concerns have been raised over the security of users' biometric data.
