SEC briefing draws strong dissatisfaction from House Democratic staff

PANews reported on June 4 that according to The Block, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was severely criticized by Democratic staff in the House of Representatives for its poor performance in the technical briefing of the crypto market structure bill "CLARITY Act". The briefing was described as "the worst technical support meeting", and SEC representatives were accused of being unable to answer basic questions and even implying that some information was "privileged content". Democratic aides said that the SEC provided written technical support to the Republicans but refused to treat the Democrats in the same way, which made people question its political bias. In addition, the briefing staff sent by the SEC did not include experts familiar with the content of the legislation, but came from the Office of Legal Counsel and the newly established Crypto Working Group, which raised questions about improper procedures. The House Financial Services Committee is currently preparing to hold a hearing on the CLARITY Act, which aims to clarify the division of supervision of digital assets between the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and stipulate customer fund segregation requirements. Democratic leader Maxine Waters has asked the SEC chairman to submit a relevant response by June 6.
