PANews reported on December 2nd that, according to Jinshi Data, the Japanese government has established a "Department for Government Efficiency" (DOGE) to review and cut inefficient taxes and subsidies, and will solicit revision suggestions from the public before the end of the year. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that funds will be directed to areas of "genuine need," while Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara emphasized the simultaneous review of expenditures and revenues. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi pledged that bond issuance this fiscal year will not exceed last year's, but ultra-long-term yields have risen. Katayama and Minister for Economic Development Strategy Minoru Jonouchi stated that the government and the Bank of Japan are in agreement on the economic assessment, and Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda hinted at a possible interest rate hike at the December policy meeting, fueling market expectations.
Japan has established an "Efficiency Department" to reduce inefficient spending, in line with the central bank's expectations of interest rate hikes.
