A Detroit man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for donating Bitcoin to the extremist group ISIS.

PANews reported on November 15th that, according to Decrypt, a Detroit man pleaded guilty to concealing Bitcoin donations intended to fund the Islamic State (ISIS) and was sentenced to nine years in federal prison. Authorities stated that the man used privacy-focused VPNs and encryption software to cover up the Bitcoin transactions. His conviction comes as the federal government intensifies its crackdown on the use of cryptocurrency to fund extremist groups.
